Ryzen 5 5600x

The AMD Ryzen 5 5600x CPU contains 6 cores, 12 threads, and has a maximum frequency of 4.6GHz, meaning you can throw a lot at this processor and still see great performance at impressive speeds. AMD has promoted this CPU as ideal for a gaming rig, so if that’s what you’ve come here looking for, look no further. AMD have significantly improved the power efficiency of the Ryzen 5 5600x thanks to the core/thread improvements and their new Zen 3 architecture. The boosting algorithm, memory overclocking, and cache topology have also been improved, helping this CPU pack an incredible punch given its “mid-range” status and very affordable price. In a test by Tom’s Hardware, the Ryzen 5 5600x was even found to out-perform many Intel CPUs in single-threaded workloads. If you’re tossing up with a Ryzen 5 or an Intel i5-11^th Gen, the Ryzen CPU will be the most cost-effective option thanks to packed specs for the same price as Intel. This CPU also has PCIe Gen4 support, is relatively easy to cool, and comes with the highly-valued Wraith Stealth Cooler. Moral of the story: the Ryzen 5 5600x CPU is incredible value for money and regularly out-performs Intel competitors. Ryzen 7 5800x

The Ryzen 7 5800x is the next step up in the latest AMD 5000 series line-up. Featuring 8 cores and 16 threads with a boost clock of 4.7GHz, this CPU has even more processing power than its 5600x counterpart. The 5800x is also quite power efficient and supports PCIe Gen4. The Zen 3 architecture allows for approximately 19% IPC increase (ie. how many instructions can be executed and completed in a single cycle). While this CPU still boasts impressive gaming performance, there isn’t a huge jump in performance from the Ryzen 5 and there’s no cooler included with this CPU, meaning bang-for-buck gamers may want to stick with the Ryzen 5 5600x. However, for general productivity, the extra cores and threads are sure to make a difference. Many reviews recommend the Ryzen CPU over its Intel equivalent. The Zen 3 improvements allow the Ryzen 7 5800x to improve gaming communication speeds and reduce memory latency, making it a stiff competitor for Intel i7 CPUs and a great choice for PC users looking for the power of the 5600x, and then some.

Ryzen 9 5900x

Now for the good stuff – the Ryzen 9 5900x 12 core, 24 thread CPU. A game changer. Though the max frequency is almost the same as the 5800x at 4.8GHz, this CPU packs a major punch. The power and performance of the 5900x turns 3D rendering or software compiling into child’s play. A major benefit of this CPU is that you most likely won’t need a new motherboard, since it has the same chipset as the previous generation and is compatible with 500-series and many 400-series motherboard. But to be safe, double check that your motherboard is compatible here. This CPU will generate a bit more heat than Intel equivalents, but AMD have ensured this is standard - just make sure you’ve got a CPU cooler. Ryzen 9 5950x

And now for the crown jewel of AMD’s latest Zen 3 5000-series CPU line-up: the Ryzen 9 5950x. With a mind-boggling 16 cores, 32 threads, and 4.9GHz boost clock, this CPU is not messing around. AMD has created the ideal CPU that delivers impeccable performance regardless of the high-workloads and multi-threaded tasks you throw at it. Though it’s pretty comparable on paper to the Ryzen 9 3950x, the new Zen 3 architecture has taken this CPU to new heights. Thanks to the AM4 socket, it’s compatible with most recent motherboards, though you should always check before committing to a new CPU. In a PCMag test of the Ryzen 9 5950x and the Intel i9-10900K, the Ryzen outperformed on a Cinebench R15 single-core comparison by about 22%, and was able to render a 12-minute video 28% faster.
