nVidia RTX 3060Ti performance better than 2080?

The leaked benchmarks for the much anticipated nVidia GeForce RTX 3060 Ti have surfaced online and have demonstrated that this GPU can outperform the RTX 2080 Super!

These benchmarks, sourced from Videocardz, highlight the official benchmark reports from nVidia. As demonstrated by the reports, the RTX 3060 Ti arguably out-performs the previous generation’s RTX 2080 Super in all benchmarking exercises, even ray tracing, despite the fact that the RTX 3060 Ti is reported to have fewer RT cores than the 2080 Super (38 vs 48).

The tests highlight the performance of the 3060 Ti at a resolution of 1440p on an Intel Core i9-10900K CPU platform; the performance from the nVidia GeForce RTX 3060 Ti delivered an average of 5.5% performance uplift over the RTX 2080 Super benchmarks.

Additionally, in ray tracing benchmarks, the newer GPU outperformed the RTX 2080 Super by 9.5%, and in rendering performance and content creation, the RTX 3060 Ti performed 36.3% quicker to complete the same tasks.

In the benchmarks leaked, we saw a performance comparison against the older RTX 2060 Super, which the RTX 3060 Ti outperforms by 37% and 54% for ray tracing, and by 51% to 80% in rendering.

nVidia is yet to confirm the official specifications for the RTX 3060 Ti, though the Videocardz report claims the Ampere-based nVidia GPU will feature the same 8GB GDDR6 memory as the RTX 2080 Super, which would explain the benchmark results.

Previous rumours for the RTX 3060 Ti have also suggested that we can expect the card to feature 4864 CUDA cores, base clock speeds of 1410MHz, and boost speeds of 1665MHz, which means it could potentially deliver 16.2 TFLOPs of performance.

Rosman Computers is expecting to have access to the nVidia RTX 3060 Ti by early December and is expected to be around the $699 AUD price mark.
